Be careful when you rent an apartment or room in Barcelona. You have to be egoistic and not trust anyone. I found my first room through a friend and my first flat with an agency. The agency gave me a contract and I read through it many times before signing. But you never know who is reliable. Once I worked for a guy who rented rooms but one day he just disappeared and never payed me. You can imagine what happend with the clients arriving to the airport that same day. They had payed reservation fee and where left on the street without anywhere to stay.
So be careful and rent through good friends or sign a contract before paying and entering the flat.
Make sure you understand the contract, ask a friend to join you when signing if you don't understand spanish.
